*World renowned Odissi teacher launches three-workshop program in Sydney*
Academy of Vedic Arts and Monica Singh Sangwan have launched a program of three Odissi dance workshops to be held in Sydney in 2017. The program is designed to impart a full year’s tuition of the ancient dance form in an intimate workshop setting.
The first workshop, to be held on 21 – 25 April in Auburn, welcomes participants of all levels of Odissi experience. Absolute beginners will be given a thorough introduction to Odissi basics as a foundation for more advanced instruction in the next 2 workshops in the program. Participants who already have basic Odissi training will appreciate revising their knowledge under the guidance of an expert teacher, and receive instruction in a new dance item for their repertoire.
The Sydney Odissi Workshop program is designed and led by Melbourne-based Odissi artiste and scholar Monica Singh. Ms Singh, who is a student of Smt. Madhavi Mudgal and a Visharad of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi, is renowned for her intensive and residential Odissi workshops around the world. She has recently returned from a 5 week residential workshop in Varanasi, India, for which she was felicitated by the noted dance critic and historian, Ashish Khokhar.
The workshop comprises 17 hours’ tuition over 5 days, starting on a Friday evening, and is designed in modules so that each participant’s experience is tailored to their level of expertise. Age, cultural background and previous dance experience is no barrier to participation. The workshop’s objective is to impart the full strength of formal Odissi training to a diverse and time-poor audience, whether they are stay-at-home mums, aspiring dancers or yoga enthusiasts interested in expanding their movement vocabulary.
The cost for attending the workshop is $275. Places are strictly limited. To apply, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
