Trailer for a short film on the amazing Indian Sarod player Pandit Ashok Roy, who lived in Australia from 1987 – 2007.
Disciple of the great Sarod Player Ali Akbar Khan, Roy emigrated to Australia in the late 80s where he taught at Monash and Melbourne Universities before settling in Syndey to become the artistic director of the Australian Institute of Eastern Music.
The film is cut from archival vhs footage of concerts and workshops Ashok gave in Australia in the 80s and 90s, interviews Ashok made with Peter Parkhill, and a short documentary on “Slivanje” one of the cross cultural collaborations Ashok was part of made by Fabio Cavadini and Amanda King.
Featuring interviews with Ashok’s students Adrian McNeil, Bobby Singh, John Napier, Sumathi Krishnan and Nancy Grover who first brought Ashok to Australia in 1973. Commissioned by and Screening at Parramasala Sth Asian Film Festival 2014 Oct 18 5pm & Oct 19 3pm, Riverside Theatre, Parramatta
