Urmila Satyanarayan
Urmila Satyanarayanan performed at the Sydney Music Festival on the 7th June 2009 and in Canberra on the 8th June 2009. She presented Rama Rasanubhavam.
Urmila Satyanarayan is well known in dance circles in India but Sydney shall see her perhaps for the first time, thanks to Swara Laya Inc’s efforts. She will be quite busy during her visit to Sydney armed with the additional task of presiding over student Bharathanatyam dance competitions to be held prior the festival. A well known fact is that this seasoned artist was trained by the best stalwarts in the field of dance, none other than Padmasree Dandayuthapani Pillai and Kalaimamani KJ Sarasa. Does it make a difference when one learns from both a male dancer and is guided by a female guru ? For Urmila dance perhaps was a natural progression bestowed with an atheletic physique, beauty, grace and training the forthcoming performance should be captivating. Sitting next to me was her teenage daughter much to my surprise I was greatly pleased that Urmila has maintained her physique and attitude in great shape. Looking at her dance one would not have guessed she was any older than in her late twenties.
