In A Special Interactive Session held in Sydney Padmasree Padmabhushan Dr Padma Subrahmanyam Explains the Meaning of ARAMANDI, the standard half sitting position taken by dancers, with the help of Young Sydney Student Shweta Das. In the interactive session Dr Padma Subrahmanyam effortlessly dealt with all questions posed about the Karanas and their comparison to Aduvus; the importance of studying the shastras; the different types of Aramundi and “Bharathanrityam” which she insists is not her style but something that prevailed over centuries ago. Dr Gayathri embellished the talk with a demonstration of the 13 facial exercises that are taught at Dr Padma Subrahmanyam’s dance school Nrityodaya in Chennai before a child starts learning bodily movements in all six speeds.
